Allegedly an episode of intolerance in Ragusa where a woman, raped in Libya and arrived in our territory in the context of one of the recent landings of migrants, would be treated as a "plague". The 19 year old Eritrea, arrived in the night between Saturday and Sunday on a boat that was in danger of sinking, had gone to the hospital, to the "Maria Paternò Arezzo" (photo) , accompanied by the operators of the hot spot of Pozzallo. She had gone to visit her fifteen-day-old daughter. When the woman arrived at the hospital, someone began to complain, between mothers and relatives, because it had spread a groundless fear of contagion of some unspecified disease that the woman would have been affected. But in fact nothing was true,
The doctors in service at the Pozzallo hot spot had diagnosed a suspected pathology from scabies and the woman was then subjected to prophylaxis. The doctors of the neonatology department, precisely for this reason, had the woman wear a sterile overalls, gloves and a hat, for purely precautionary purposes. It would have been this "clothing" to trigger feelings of fear and therefore of rejection on the part of mothers and other people present in the hall of the hospital. The Eritrean woman was still able to visit her baby, but the episode did discuss, since it also served the intervention of law enforcement to calm the minds.
"It's an episode that surprises us and makes us bitter and from which I distance myself, I'm trying to better understand what happened and I will invite the woman in the city hall to show that ours is a city that is open to hospitality", declared the mayor , Peppe Cassì. The mayor of Pozzallo, Roberto Ammatuna, was of the same opinion.
