The 2018 Tour of Panzhihua, the 1st edition of the race, was held on December 8. After two-day race, Eritrean National Team won the conclusive victory on team time trial, putting their rider Dawit Yemane in Panzhihua Hero Jersey (the leader of the general) and Red Polka-Dot Jersey. Niu Yikui of Heilongjiang Team took the race lead in the second stage.
Panzhihua, located in the southwest part of Sichuan Province in China, possesses rich mineral resources and is celebrated for Panzhihua Iron&Steel Co.. It is China’s “National Forest City”, one of first batch of cities recognized as “National Garden City”. It also named the “National Health City”. A yearly average of 20.3 degrees Celsius is nature’s paradise for bicycle racing.
The opening stage unparalleled was a circuit race of 80.8 kilometers with two sprints en route and one KOM of category 2.The last stage of the 114.7 km route, running across two sprints and one KOM of category 3, took the peloton from China’s Three-tier Construction Museum to Culture Square of Miyi Town. Miyi Town is the the birthplace of Yingzhong–the secondary well-known emperor in China. In March 2016, the town was officially named as “Chinese Yingzhong Culture Township”. The territory has a world-class national Kayak Rapids Roundabout training base and the national 3A Grade Yingzhong LongDong scenic tourist area. People livng there can enjoy spring flower viewing, summer coolness, autumn fruit and sunny winter. In terms of the Individual Classification, the Panzhihua Hero Jersey and Red Polka Dot Jersy go to Dawit Yemane from Eritrean National Team. Henok Muluberhan, also from Eritrean National Team, sealed the Best Sprinter Jersey. Liu Jiankun from Heilongjiang Team, managed to keep Red Jersey, representing the highest honor of the riders from the Greater China Area. As to the Team Classification, Eritrean National Team won the first place, while Tianjin Team grabbing the title of Best Chinese Team.
