Date: Friday, 11 January 2019

Three women from Eritrea wanted to travel on the back of a truck to England. At Aachen, they noticed that the truck did not drive there - and drew attention to themselves by waving.

A truck driver was on his way from Belgium to Aachen on Thursday morning when he got a light signal from another truck. In the wing mirror, he noticed that a tension belt cut across the road and a person looked out of the back, reports the police. The driver drove slowly on the side strip and called the police. A patrol car of the state police then steered the truck on the shoulder to the Federal Police Station in Eschweiler. The police opened the back and released three women, a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 47-year-old woman from Eritrea.

Already in September 2018, the teenage women tried to use Aachen-Lichtenbusch as a stowaway in a truck illegally to reach Germany, reports the police. The 47-year-old was already known as an asylum seeker in the Netherlands.

According to the police, the women had cut open the tarpaulin of the truck and wanted to drive to England on the truck bed. That the truck did not go to England, they noticed only in Germany and drew attention to themselves. The women were reported because of the unauthorized entry and forwarded to the youth welfare office Eschweiler and to a reception facility. The police are now investigating whether smugglers helped the women.

Three women found in trailer

AKEN - On Thursday morning, January 10, a truck driver discovered in Aachen in Aachen that there were people in his trailer. A truck driver in the opposite direction gave him light signals. In his wing mirror he saw that a strap was hanging outside the trailer and dragged over the road and that a person was hanging out of the trailer. He immediately called the police and slowly put his truck aside.

When the police arrived a short time later, three women were found in the trailer, a 16-year-old, 17-year-old and 47-year-old, all from Eritrea.

The 16- and 17-year-old women had also illegally entered Germany in September 2018 by hiding in a truck and the 47-year-old woman was already known as an asylum seeker in the Netherlands.

The women had cut open the tarpaulin of the truck, assuming they were going to Britain. However, when this turned out not to be the case, they tried to attract attention.

The women have been transferred to youth care and the immigration service.
