Michael Galilov, the owner of the kiosk in Tel Aviv where the winning ticket was sold, told Channel 12 that the winner was so overwhelmed that he didn't realize what was happening. "We were all in shock."
The winning ticket that the man bought cost 100 shekels (24.5 euros). It is unclear how many tickets the Eritrean had bought. Galilov also stated that the man's friends had told him it might be time to give up, but he kept on scratching.
There are many African asylum seekers in southern Tel Aviv, often in poor conditions. Israel postponed plans for the deportation of around 40,000 African migrants.
