The Sudanese government yesterday rejected the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company’s call for bids in ten oil and gas exploration blocks in the Red Sea including areas within the disputed Halayeb region.

The Sudanese Minister of State for Oil and Gas, Saad Al-Deen Hussein Al-Bishri, said in a statement yesterday that his country rejects the Egyptian company’s actions and described them as “illegal”.

“The region is located under the jurisdiction of the Sudanese Ministry of Oil and Gas, according to maps accredited by the Sudan Survey Authority and Sudan’s Ministry of Defence,” he said.
