RV The Hungarian driver saw a lot of illegal immigrants coming out of his truck.
(LONDERZEEL) In Londerzeel this morning a large number of illegal immigrants jumped from a Hungarian truck at an intersection on the A12. They took the legs towards the Londerzeel center. The police of the KLM zone (Kapelle-op-den-Bos, Londerzeel, Meise) have since arrested a dozen people. Possibly there will follow.
The truck in question had parked this morning on the side of the road at the junction of the A12 in Londerzeel. "It is not clear whether the driver has heard anything, or whether they simply opened the loading doors themselves when they stopped," says spokesperson Freddy Van Heymbeeck of the KLM police zone.
The fact is that immediately a lot of people fled to Londerzeel center. Witnesses even speak of 30 people, but that figure was not confirmed. "In the meantime, we have picked up a dozen people, there may still be more," Van Heymbeeck continues.
“They are from the East African country of Eritrea. The procedure will be followed in consultation with the Immigration Office.
Their identity will be checked and then it will be decided what needs to be done. If they are staying in the country illegally, they will be ordered to leave the territory. It is also possible that they are transferred to the asylum center. The handling will probably take all day. "
