Does Alexander Mercouris know and report more than a U.S. President gets in his daily intelligence briefing?
9 December 2024, by Eric Zuesse. (All of my recent articles can be seen here.)
Time and again, America’s intelligence community has failed both the President and the nation by failing to understand what is actually going on, and even sometimes by going public (like with ‘Saddam’s WMD’, and ‘Putin’s puppet Trump’) regarding what subsequently turns out to have been false information (fed to the President and passed along by the ‘news’-media); and, so, there are probably many individuals who know more that’s accurate than a U.S. President gets in his daily intelligence briefing. (None of these really good analysts and reporters is ever a candidate to become appointed to provide the U.S. President’s daily intelligence briefing, nor is even given a platform on any of the U.S. major news-media, which is sad, but that’s the way things are in America.) One such person, in my opinion, is the daily international-news reporter and commentator Alexander Mercouris, who, in my experience, has turned out to have been correct on at least 99% of the things that he has reported — and he reports always on only the most important international news of the day; so, that’s no small achievement, because there is so much false ‘news’ that’s reported about the most important topics. His latest report can always be seen at https://theduran.com (posted there by Alex Christoforou), which also publishes all of my articles.
I shall here give as a typical example of his reporting, his video-commentary that was posted on December 9th, “Trump Crushes Zelensky, Wants War End; Angry Zelensky Turns to Biden; Assad in Moscow, Syria Burns”. I suggest at least starting to listen to it, before reading any further here. (However, that title for the video is poor: This video covers ONLY two topics: it opens with the Syria situation; then it covers the Ukraine situation. A more accurate title would actually have been “Assad’s Sudden Failure, Erdogan’s Sudden Takeover of Syria; Zelensky’s Insults to Both Trump and Biden.”)
Is there any news-reporter or commentator on international news who knows in such historical depth about all of the nations in the international news in our time so as to be able to report these ongoing history-shaping events the way he does there? I can think of a few — none of which, likewise, has any mainstream platform — such as Colonel Douglas Macgregor, Scott Ritter, Brian Berletic, Lawrence Wilkerson, and the author at “Moon of Alabama,” all of whom likewise are extraordinarily fine; but none of them does it every day, day-in and day-out, and on a broad range of international-relations topics, like Mercouris does. And he always has accurate insights that regular reporters don’t.
The opening, Syria, portion of this video reports that Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad during the past few years has been personally insulting to Turkey’s President Erdogan, who had repeatedly tried to get a personal meeting with Assad, but Assad repeatedly refused, despite Erdogan’s having changed his position so as to accept Assad’s continuing to lead Syria (which until recently Erdogan didn’t). Furthermore, Assad was also becoming increasingly uncooperative with Russia’s President Putin. Mercouris says that Erdogan was actually the main person behind the plan that ousted Assad. Furthermore, he says that Assad was refusing to take seriously warnings from Iran about plans that were being made in Turkey to overthrow him.
In the Ukraine portion of this video, which starts at 46:16 in this 95-minute video (so, almost exactly halfway through), Mercouris presents a picture of Ukraine’s President Zelensky as being so bold as to publicly contradict the person who, starting on January 20th, will basically control Zelensky’s fate. I was stunned to learn this, but Mercouris provides several examples of it, and they are undeniably true.
Mercouris also reports that the other side of Zelensky’s contempt for Trump is Zelensky’s becoming even more demanding of the current U.S. President, Biden — demanding he join far more directly with Ukraine’s war against Russia. This is perhaps even more stunning than Zelensky’s insulting Trump. After all, what can Biden’s feeling toward Zelensky be when Zelensky is publicly demanding Biden to, essentially, bring the U.S. into World War Three in order to defeat Russia in Ukraine? The supplicant Zelensky’s demanding the U.S. to escalate Ukraine’s war to World War Three is insulting to Biden. This will NOT help to advance Zelensky’s cause — whatever that might be.
Mercouris has an extraordinary ability to get into the heads of the main actors so as to explain what’s happening in the most important international affairs. He draws not only upon his deep knowledge of history but also upon his — it must be — speed-reading through and penetratingly interpreting, on-the-fly, news-reports and official government publications from around the world, plus upon his extremely well-connected private sources around the world, whom he doesn’t identify. So far as I know, he’s the only person who reports every day in this way.
His typical daily report is around 90 minutes, and is far more informative of what’s happening in international relations than reading every day, say, for example, the ten or twenty most-highly respected newspapers would be — especially because his reports are far more reliably true than those are. So I think that anyone who seriously follows the global news ought to give Mercouris a try, at least. His commentaries can also be found at other sites such as youtube, but there the latest one might be shown way down on the list, and is interrupted by ads, neither of which is the case at https://theduran.com.
PS: If you like this article, please email it to all your friends or otherwise let others know about it. None of the U.S.-and-allied ‘news’-media will likely publish it (nor link to it, since doing that might also hurt them with Google or etc.). I am not asking for money, but I am asking my readers to spread my articles far and wide, because I specialize in documenting what the Deep State is constantly hiding. This is, in fact, today’s samizdat.

Investigative historian Eric Zuesse’s latest book, AMERICA’S EMPIRE OF EVIL: Hitler’s Posthumous Victory, and Why the Social Sciences Need to Change, is about how America took over the world after World War II in order to enslave it to U.S.-and-allied billionaires. Their cartels extract the world’s wealth by control of not only their ‘news’ media but the social ‘sciences’ — duping the public.
