Eritrean martyrs day conducted, on June 18th & 20th respectively in Edmonton, Hamilton and Burlington & Environs commemorated solemnly.

Edmonton- June 18th 2017 - The Eritrean Community Members in the City of Edmonton, Hamilton, Burlington and Its Environs commemorated martyrs day in their respective cities. 

The tribute began with a moment of silence in memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for Eritrea's Freedom and Sovereignty. The program included walking around the park to commemorate the long struggle, led by the younger Eritreans; it featured speeches, poetry and songs.

 

The community chairpersons for each respective city officially opened the ceremony. In their keynote speech to Eritrean Community members, the chairperson reiterated the day of remembrance of its fallen martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice to liberate the country from the restraints of oppression and all those who have fallen safeguarding the hard won independence from the continued threats of Eritrea’s enemies. Hence, it was the responsibility of each and every Eritrean to support the families of those that were martyred. They also stated that the prevailing peace and stability in the country is the outcome of the heavy sacrifices paid.

 

This year also featured the most participation of the youth through poems, collection of donations and leading of the walk on the park. 

 Furthermore, the Community members expressed readiness to step up efforts towards bequeathing the national values to the young generation, while encouraging them to support families of fallen heroes. Eritrean nationals that reside in the city of Edmonton, Hamilton, Burlington and environs concluded the martyr’s commemoration by reiterating the readiness to honor the trust fund of our fallen heroes and to depict the true image of their homeland.
