Online Press Conference: Why citizens, policy-makers, and business leaders need to learn about the circular economy

Wednesday, 14 April 2021, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM CET

VIENNA, Austria, April 01, 2021/ -- WHAT: Business leaders, policymakers, and citizens need to be educated about the circular economy, an emerging paradigm and critical concept that provides many various opportunities while also requiring different priorities in different parts of the world. The predominant linear take-make-waste economy results in enormous damage to societies and economies, and a different approach is becoming increasingly urgent and necessary.

According to the Circularity Gap Report 2021 at CGR 2021 (www.Circularity-Gap.world/2021), humanity has breached two severe milestones: the world is consuming 100 billion tons (Gt) of materials a year, and it is 1-degree warmer. A circular economy can help address these challenges while there is an urgent need to educate citizens, policy-makers, corporate decision-makers and others about the basics of circularity, and the role of consumers, businesses, and regulatory frameworks.

Circularity helps ensure affordable and eco-friendly infrastructure development, potentially provides jobs for millions working in the informal economy and helps preserve the productive capacity of critical natural capital.

For some background on the circular economy in Africa, please have a look at Spotlight on circularity in Africa | REVOLVE (https://bit.ly/3drbgBm).

On Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 3pm CET, REVOLVE Circular (a non-profit organization based in Vienna, Austria, advocating for a more circular economy by independent and constructive reporting, brokering knowledge, and science communication) will convene an online press conference highlighting the opportunities and challenges of a circular economy, and why more efforts are needed to educate citizens, business leaders and policy-makers on circularity.

The press conference is an official side event to the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) (https://bit.ly/3m71Yyk) organized by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra at Front page - Sitra (www.Sitra.fi). It will also serve as a soft launch of Imagine Circularity at Home - Imagine Circularity (https://bit.ly/2POat5m), the first-ever global survey initiative engaging citizens and other stakeholders around the world to provide their views, perceptions and ideas on what the circular economy is from their point of view.

Attending journalists will learn about circularity in line with their region which will enable them report about the circular transformation, presenting and informing the masses on the opportunities and challenges of circular business models and policies to influence businesses, policymakers, financiers, and other stakeholders. Journalists who wish to receive a copy of a Book entitled “Circular Economy for Dummies” co-authored by one of the panelists (available to review and to interview the authors for a story) are welcome to notify our team ahead of the event, so we coordinate delivery around the book’s official publication date of 27 April.

Join high-level panelists and journalists from Africa, Europe and the USA virtually for insights on circularity
