The spirit and undying will of Eritrea lives!!!<\/b><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/The Eritrean community of Toronto and surrounding areas filled the York Civic Centre for Sunday\u2019s Hizbawi Mekete with over 500 Eritreans in attendance. The day began with a minute of silence for our fallen martyrs followed by an opening statement from PFDJ regarding recent developments with respect to the unjust and illegal UN Resolution (1907) against Eritrea. We were reminded of the UN\u2019s negligence throughout Eritrea\u2019s history, beginning with the denial of Eritrea\u2019s right of sovereignty when the UN, against the will of Eritrea and with America\u2019s blessing, forced Eritrea to be federated in 1952. Just as we faced the challenge then and achieved independence, we will face the challenge now and grow stronger in the process. Statements of support and solidarity with the people and Government of Eritrea were made by YPFDJ, NUEW, and the ECAO.\n\nThe seminar guest of honour was Mr. Semere Ghebremariam, Head of Public and Community Affairs in Canada. Mr. Semere explained that the origins of the illegal sanctions are a part of the greater campaign to smear Eritrea because of its opposition to America\u2019s policy of exploitation and hegemony in Africa. He added that America\u2019s claim that Eritrea has refused to engage with the international community is completely false and unfounded. It is America that has refused to engage Eritrea. Mr. Semere enthusiastically declared the false and fabricated allegations that are the basis of the UN Resolution will be exposed and Eritrea will prevail once more. During the Q&A period, one Toronto resident after another passionately reconfirmed their commitment and support to Eritrea and its people. \n\nTo conclude the Mekete, the following resolutions were unanimously passed:\n\n1.\tWe strongly condemn the UNjust and baseless UN Security Council Resolution 1907 (2009) imposing sanctions against Eritrea and we call the UN Security Council to immediately repeal the resolution.\n2.\tWe call the Obama Administration to realign its Horn of Africa policies honoring its promises for constructive engagement and stop its hostile treatment of Eritrea.\n3.\tWe call on the Canadian government to stop its silence and engage constructively to repeal the UNjust UN Security Council Resolution 1907 (2009).\n4.\tWe call on the UN Security Council, the US government, and the international community to enforce the final and binding decisions of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission by ensuring that the Ethiopian government immediately vacate sovereign Eritrean territories and unconditionally implement the demarcation decision on the ground.\n5.\tWe resolve to defend and safeguard the Eritrean independence and sovereignty achieved against all odds through the monumental sacrifice of its people. We pledge to stand against all enemies of our motherland trying to saw discord among our people.\n6.\tWe praise the steadfastness of our people and the clear policies of the Eritrean government based on self-reliance ensuring food security, development of basic infrastructure, distribution of public health and education, and we pledge our continued support of our people and government.\n7.\tWe extend our support and appreciation of the Eritrean Defence Forces who are always vigilant in safeguarding the sovereignty and independence of Eritrea. \n\nAnd the people held hands and shouted \u201cAWET N\u2019HAFASH, AWET N\u2019HAFASH, AWET N\u2019HAFASH!\u201d\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
