Nov 4, IRNA <javascript:history.back();>

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that Tehran will spare
no efforts to mediate between Djibouti and Eritrea to help create
understanding between the two African states.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with Djiboutian counterpart Mahmoud
Ali Youssouf, he said that Tehran backs Djibouti's efforts to restore peace
and tranquility in Somalia.

Since the Islamic Republic of Iran has a very good relations with Djibouti
and Eritrea, the country feels duty bound to help mend fences between the
two countries, he said.

He hoped that friendly ties between Djibouti's neighbors mainly with Eritrea
will improve.

"We believe that Djibouti has sufficient capacity to help peace talks among
belligerent parties in the region," he said.

Officials in Iran and Djibouti have put expansion of broad-based economic
cooperation on the agenda, he said.

Iran is among the oil suppliers to Djibouti, he said adding that Iran is
also reviewing import of goods from the country.

The two countries have very good cooperation in the international fora, he
said adding, "We are to further broaden and bolster such ties."
Mottaki described the recent US attacks on Syria as a 'disgraceful defeat'
and urged the new US administration to revise the wrong policy.

The US aggression on Syria is sign of the country's weakness and desperation
in carrying out its mission in the Middle East region, Mottaki said.

The US action in Syria is sign of a disgraceful defeat, he underlined.

It is essential that the US administration revise its foreign policy mainly
those pertaining to the Middle East region, he said.

To a question on Zionist attacks on the so-called Syrian nuclear sites as
well as the recent attacks by the US choppers in the country, he said the
Bush administration is not in a position to send message on troublesome
steps.

In their meeting, Djibouti foreign minister commended Iran's efforts in
dealing with developments in Somalia and called for expansion of all-out
cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
