President Isaias holds talks with Administrator of China's Xinjiang province

Massawa, 4 November 2008 - President Isaias Afwerki today held talks with the Administrator of the Chinese Province of Xinjiang, Mr. Nuer Baikeli.
In the meeting held in the port city of Massawa, the President indicated that Eritrea maintains good relations and cooperation with the PRC which attests to the desire and interest of the two peoples and governments. Noting that there exists bilateral cooperation of partnership in diverse fields, especially mining, he pointed out that the benefit secured from such cooperation is channeled towards improving the people's standard of living.
President Isaias further explained that Eritrea is giving top priority to the development of tourism, fisheries and industry, and that there exists wide-ranging investment opportunities in these domains.
Expressing appreciation to the Administrator of the Chinese province for conducting a visit to Eritrea, the President stated that the agreement to be concluded between Xinjiang Province and the Eritrean Gash-Barka region would be taken as a symbol of cooperation.
Mr. Nuer Baikeli on his part lauded the ongoing development programs and the accomplishments being registered in Eritrea and stated that Eritrean-Chinese cooperation is progressing well. He particularly commended Eritrea's stance regarding the Taiwan issue.
In the course of his visit, the Chinese official observed the Serejeka-Shebah road constructed on the basis of domestic resources, the port city of Massawa and various projects. Earlier, the Administrator of Xinjiang Province visited the strategic dams of Fanko and Gerset in Gash-Barka, during which he observed the development activities being carried out in land plots below the two dams.
