Somalia: Three Islamist groups "to merge"
Three insurgent groups which are fighting in Somalia have today said they will merge under one umbrella and will form one group that has a distinct name.
Muhammad Adan Kofi speaking to the media on behalf of the three groups said the Union of Islamic Court (faction] which is not affiliated to the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS] will from today unite with Al-Shabab and the Raaskanbooni fighters who are all fighting in Somalia currently.
Kofi also said these three groups will also be named as one soon and will carry out with the Jihad from one front.
Islamist's statement by Kofi comes at a time when insurgent groups opposed to the cease-fire agreement reached between the Transitional Federal Government and ARS have carried out attacks against bases belonging to government forces and foreign troops in Mogadishu's Hodan and Wardhigley districts.
Elsewhere Kofi says Islamists carried out joint attack in Mogadishu
A spokesman for the three Islamists movement in Mogadishu has claimed the groups were involved in fighting against Ethiopian, African peacekeepers and government forces in Mogadishu.
In a news conference in Mogadishu, Kofi, , Al Shabaab Islamists, the Ras Kamboni fighters and the Union of Islamic Courts, which are independent form the two wings of Djbouti and Asmara, will unite and also share one name as from today, following the joint attack they carried out today in Mogadishu
