President Isaias returns home concluding official working visit to Sudan

Asmara, 14 November 2008 - President Isaias Afwerki returned home today concluding a two-day official working visit to Sudan at the invitation of the Sudanese government.
In the course of the visit, the President held talks with Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir, the Vice President, Mr. Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, the Presidential Assistants, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie and Mr. Mussa Mohammed Ahmed respectively, the Secretary General of the SPLM, Mr. Pagan Amom, as well as other Sudanese government officials and political forces. The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern to both countries.
President Omar Al-Beshir lauded the efforts Eritrea is exerting to promote peace in the Sudan. He further pointed out that President Isaias’ participation in the closing session of the “Conference of the Sudanese People’s Initiative towards Peaceful Resolution of the Darfur Issue” attests to the growing bilateral ties which is gaining momentum from time to time.
In a speech he delivered at the closing session of the “Conference of the Sudanese People’s Initiative towards Peaceful Resolution of the Darfur Issue,” President Isaias asserted that the people and Government of Eritrea would stand alongside the brotherly people of Sudan for the success of the initiative.
