A top-level delegation has been meeting in Chad recently to discuss the implementation of the Dakar Agreement between Chad and Sudan.
The Contact Group saw the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Libya and Congo, as Co-Chairmen, and Eritrea, Gabon, Chad, Senegal and Sudan.
The Organisation of the Islamic Conference General Secretariat, as a full member of the Contact Group, was represented by Ambassador Habib Kaabachi, Director in the Political Affairs Department, who delivered a message from the Secretary General of the OIC to the meeting, in which, while welcoming the resumption of diplomatic relations between Chad and Sudan, he exhorted the Group to capitalize on the valued dividend resulting from the reestablishment of diplomatic relationships between the two capitals and accelerate the process of normalization of the relations between them.
The Contact Group decided to hold its Seventh Ministerial meeting in Khartoum. This meeting will proceed to the real setting up of the Peace and Security Force in charge of monitoring the borders between Chad and Sudan. The Group also approved the appointment of a General Coordinator of the Peace and Security Force.
In its final communiqué, the Contact Group referred to the message addressed to it by the Secretary General to the Ministerial meeting of the Contact Group exhorting the Group to capitalize on the valued dividend resulting from the re-establishment of diplomatic relationships between Chad and Sudan and his appeal to both countries to accelerate the process of normalisation of their relations and to continue solving their conflicts through dialogue and peace.
