Ambassador Girmai expresses surprise with attempts by US Ambassador to Eritrea to find excuses for TPLF regime’s rejection of EEBC ruling

Asmara, 27 November 2008 – The Eritrean Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Girmai Gebremariam, expressed surprise with attempts by the US Ambassador to Eritrea to find excuses for the TPLF regime’s official rejection of the Boundary Commission’s ruling on border delimitation. Mr. Girmai pointed out that the US Ambassador’s attempt in an interview with the VOA to advocate and defend as if the TPLF regime accepted the EBBC ruling is but totally paradoxical.
Noting that the TPLF regime and its master, the US Administration, left no stone unturned to not only impede the work of the Boundary Commission but also derail it from its legal path and change the ruling, Ambassador Girmai underlined that the Eritrean-Ethiopian boundary has been clearly defined through virtually demarcation thanks to the Commission’s strict adherence to the rule of law.
He further underscored that despite the fact that Eritrea has done its level best to normalize relations with the United States, Washington strained bilateral relations through confiscating the remittance sent by Eritrean citizens to their respective families, closing down the Eritrean Consulate in Oakland, imposing arms embargo to the non-existing Eritrean purchase of arms from the US, and leveling condemnation regarding the fabricated so-called Eritrean-Djiboutian issue with a view to creating a crisis situation, as well as resorting to a host of other anti-Eritrea acts.
