Eritrean government exerting efforts to provide equitable service to disabled nationals: Ministry

Asmara, 3 December 2008 - In a statement it issued in connection with the International Day of the Disabled on December 3, the Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare pointed out that the Eritrean government is exerting vigorous efforts to provide equitable service to disabled nationals and become productive.
It indicated that various training and rehabilitation programs have been organized in support of disabled persons as part of the continued endeavors to enhance their participation in the nation-building process.
Noting that training was given to about 3,000 people from 50 sub-zones on community-based rehabilitation program, the statement disclosed that major tasks have been accomplished in easing the problem encountered to the disabled through setting up establishments that could produce artificial limbs, wheelchairs and sticks, in addition to improving the living standard of war-disabled persons. To this end, about 616 million Nakfa has been disbursed, it elaborated.
The Ministry further called for stepped-up contribution on the part of the society at large, governmental and non-governmental institutions to jointly address the problems of disabled citizens.
