President Isaias holds talks with Norwegian official

Asmara, 8 December 2008 - President Isaias Afwerki today received and held
talks with a Norwegian delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr.
In the meeting at the Denden Hall here in the capital, the two sides
conducted discussion on bilateral, regional and international issues.
As regards regional issues, the President gave briefings to the Norwegian
official on the Sudanese and Somali issues, as well as other topics. Noting
that the Somali issue has been aggravated due to the interference of
external forces, President Isaias pointed out that the Somali people could
resolve their issue themselves, and as such they should be provided with
Mr. Raymond Johansen on his part said that although Eritrea is facing some
challenges, it is treading on a very encouraging path. Earlier, the
Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister visited Mendefera, the Dirko agricultural
project, Tsorona and other places.
Eid Al-Adha colorfully celebrated nationwide

Asmara, 8 December 2008 - Eid Al-Adha was today celebrated across the nation
in a colorful manner. The celebrations at Bahti Meskerem Square in Asmara,
tens of thousands of followers of the Islamic Faith headed by the Eritrean
Mufti, Sheik Al-Amin Osman Al-Amin, conducted prayers.
Speaking on the occasion in which Ministers, Administrators, senior
government officials, diplomats and invited guests participated, Sheik
Al-Amin expressed congratulations to nationals at home and abroad and called
on the Eritrean people to reinforce unity and build the Homeland on the
basis of harmony. He further stressed the need to extend assistance to
children of fallen heroes and needy nationals.
Noting that the secret of the Eritrean people's victory lies in their unity
and steadfastness, Sheik Al-Amin expressed conviction that they would as
ever meet all challenges and emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, live radio and TV transmission of the Eid Al-Adha celebration was
conducted from the historic Nacfa town which was organized jointly by the
Ministry of Information and the Northern Red Sea regional administration.
In a speech she delivered at the celebrations in which about 1,000 nationals
from Nacfa and its surroundings and Massawa, as well as EDF members and
students took part, Ms. Tsigereda Woldegergish, Administrator of the
Northern Red Sea region, said that the observance of the religious holiday
in the historic town of Nacfa has a special significance.
Likewise, the Administrator of Nacfa sub-zone, Mr. Idris Ali Sheker, the
celebration of Eid Al-Adha in the historic town is a vivid demonstration of
the Eritrean people's long-standing coexistence in peace and harmony. He
