Somalia: Ethiopia Wants to 'Divide Somalia Into Clans,' Says Sheik Aways

Mogadishu - Sheik Hassan Dahir Aways, The chairman of the Asmara-based wing
of the Alliance for the R-libration of Somalia told Shabelle Radio on
Tuesday that Ethiopia is playing a new trick to divide Somalis into clans to
achieve its goals.
Sheik Aways said that Ethiopia wants to implement its new plans in the hands
of the Somali strong tribes.
"We found this information from individuals who met the Ethiopian premier
Meles zenawi," Sheik Aways said. Meles told those individuals he had met
that he was going to divide Somalia into clans by using the strong clans.
He called for the Somali people to be cautious what he called the new tricks
of the enemy.
Mr. Aways also said that Ethiopia was very worried about the return of the
Islamic movements in Somalia.
The statement of Sheik Aways comes as Islamic insurgents have been capturing
towns after towns for the past week.
Somalia: Islamists Take Over Balad Hawo

Somali Insurgents have taken control of Balad Hawo town, near the
Somali-Kenyan border on Tuesday, our correspondent in the region reported.
Residents say the Insurgent forces have been deployed in the Station of the
Barre Hiralle, a Somali MP has been in the town, amassing troops there, but
he had left the town before the Insurgents came.
The Islamists routed Barre Hiralle in Kismayu, Lower Jubba capital, two
Islamic insurgent forces now control key towns in southern and central
Somalia, including the port towns of Kismayu and Merca.
The Ethiopian government announced that it will withdraw its armed forces
from Somalia by the end of the year 2008.
