"The stock of orders to modernize the S-125 Pechora air defense
missile complexes to the Pechora-2M version, proposed by the Defense
Systems company and Pechora-2A developed by the Almaz-Antei air defense
concern, includes over 50 division complexes, [which include four
launchers each]," a source with the Russian defense industry
toldInterfax.

Work under current contracts on the delivery of modernized Pechora- 2M
complexes alone in 2008 was worth $300 million, he said.

Egypt is the largest customer of modernized Pechora-2M complexes,
which accounts to almost one third of all contracts for this launcher,
he said, noting that there are contracts with Syria, Vietnam, Ethiopia,
Eritrea, Uzbekistan and some other countries.

A number of countries prefer modernizing S-125 Pechora complexes in its
Pechora-2A version. In particular, there is Iran, with which a
modernization contract was signed in 2005, on the list of such
countries. Unofficial information indicates that this contract is worth
around $200 million.

Rosoboronexport, Almaz-Antei and Defense Systems declined to
comment on the course of fulfilling modernization contracts for S-125
Pechora.

S-125 Pechora air defense missile complexes were delivered to 34
countries. As of today, around 500 complexes are still operational and
can be modernized.
