Two men arrested in kidnapping of family, bank-robbery plot By a Baltimore
Sun reporter 7:11 AM EST, December 30, 2008

Two men accused of kidnapping a Prince George's County family last weekend
in a plot to rob a bank have been arrested and charged, according to
Maryland State Police.

Police said the crime began at 7:30 p.m. Friday. As the 39-year-old mother,
a manager of the Sun Trust Bank in Silver Spring, walked into her house in
Clinton, she was accosted by two men who had a gun and a knife, police said.
The pair held the family hostage overnight, but their plan fell apart
Saturday when a state trooper stopped the family car as it headed for the
bank.

Yohannes T. Surafel, 24, of the 400 block of Cedar St. in Washington is
accused of holding the family at gunpoint in their car. He was arrested by
the Maryland trooper who stopped the car for swerving while en route to the
bank, police said. Surafel was charged with four counts of false
imprisonment, four counts of reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit
armed robbery and use of a handgun in commission of a felony, police said.

The second man who was charged is Yosef Tadele, 23, of the 4100 block of
Colie Drive in Silver Spring, police said. He has been charged with four
counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and second-degree
assault, two counts of kidnapping a child under the age of 16 and conspiracy
to commit armed robbery, according to police.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and expect at least one
additional arrest in the case, according to state police.
