The carrier, of Romanian origin, had started the trip on Friday to Italy. He made five stops. The last one in this country was in Ventimiglia, a city of about 25,000 inhabitants located in the Liguria region. He followed a route through France, where he only made a stop to put diesel fuel and when he crossed the border of La Jonquera, at about 2:30 pm there was a noise in the truck box. In the toll of the AP-7 motorway in Figueres it took advantage of the Mossos d'Esquadra traffic point to stop and alert the agents. They opened the box and found the immigrants.
