The 22-year-old South African soloed to victory in a clever way. The ride was incidentally colored by Chris Froome . The four-time Tour winner rode in the attack for a long time, but had a lot of bad luck in the final. The Tour du Rwanda rode from Rusizi to Rubavu on the fifth day, over a distance of 195.5 kilometers. Again this stage could be labeled as hilly, with a 21 kilometer climb at 2.8% in the final and a 1.7 km hill at 6.6% just before the line. Was it enough to throw the sprinters overboard? And heavy enough for the puncheurs to make a difference? Froome on the attack The lead of the brave Froome rose to four minutes at one point, but holding on to the line proved to be an almost impossible task. As the kilometers went by, the gap got smaller and smaller, and with just over fifty kilometers to go Froome's lead had already dropped to one and a half minutes. The pace in the peloton was now good, so Thomas Bonnett had to release. Yesterday's stage winner would lose his leader's jersey. Bad luck for Froome, Ormiston solos to victory William Junior Lecerf is now in the lead in the general classification. However , the 20-year-old Belgian from the Soudal-Quick-Step training team does feel the hot breath of the Ukrainian Anatoliy Budyak (+2 seconds) on his neck. Mattéo Vercher is the provisional number three, three seconds behind Lecerf. The Tour du Rwanda has three more stages. Tour du Rwanda 2023 Stage 5 results
