The People's Power Minister for Foreign Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, held a meeting this Thursday with the President of the State of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki, regarding his participation in the XV Summit of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia , India, China and South Africa), which is held in the South African city of Johannesburg.
Through his account on the X social network, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister pointed out that this meeting had the objective of "reiterating the ties of friendship between our peoples and seeking areas of cooperation within the framework of this new multipolar world that we are seeing born."
Both diplomats established the points in common between Venezuela and the East African nation, among which the adoption of the declaration of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, signed on September 23, 2021 by 18 countries. In addition, they addressed bilateral and multilateral issues that will benefit and strengthen relations between these regions.
Relations between Caracas and Asmara have been based on mutual respect and recognition. In July 2019, the African nation joined a joint statement, addressed to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, in support of multilateralism and dialogue.
