Will the changes taking place in the Horn of Africa affect the trafficking of arms in the region?
This is what the private consulting firm EXX Africa says in a report released Tuesday. So far, a large number of armed groups have been active in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia. But with the rapprochement between Addis Ababa and Asmara on one side and between Mogadishu and Asmara on the other, things could change. Several groups have already made peace with Ethiopia for example. The need for weapons will therefore be less.
If Eritrea pursues peace with Ethiopia and Eritrea returns to the fold of the international community, then there is an opportunity for Djibouti to take over the Eritrean role of supplying weapons to armed groups in the region.
