Eritrea is one of the least energy-producing countries in the world, and this severe shortage of electric power is hampering Eritrean economic development. Eritrea has set up a solar-powered solar power plant in the eastern suburb of the Eritrean capital of Asmara. Work began on the construction of the plant in November 2017 and ended in April of this year. Covering an area of ​​more than 32 thousand square meters.

The daily power generation is 11,000 kilowatts per hour, providing clean energy to the whole of Asmara and the surrounding area continuously.

Wang Xiaochiang, director of the Eritrean solar power plant, said: "This plant uses clean energy and does not need any resources other than solar radiation, which is consistent with the concept of green development.

Asmara still maintains the architectural features of the 1930s buildings, but its infrastructure suffers from many problems.

But it has unique solar resources thanks to its 2,400 meter rise above sea level. The sun exposure is 5 hours per day and the amount of solar radiation is less than 4.8 kWh per square meter.

"There are a lot of projects here, especially in the north of Asmara where this region suffers from poverty and pollution," said Gremay Berhi, minister of road affairs. Now the streets are illuminated. Street lamps are very important to our country, Eritrea.

In addition to the solar power plant, the Chinese government has set up more than 400 solar powered lamps covering nearly 13 kilometers on the Asmara airport road and other densely populated cities. The 25th branch of the China Railway Company guarantees the project of solar street lamps, and its design and construction depend on the specifications of Chinese technologies.

Sun Wen Tao, director of the Solar Street Light Project, said: "This city has a great civilization, but the infrastructure here is old. It was built several years ago.

The installation of street lamps with modern electrical equipment requires high-level infrastructure. We build the project based on solar energy, an energy-efficient photovoltaic panel and two LEDs.

A man from Asmara said: "We walk and we do this every evening. She's good, she gives us the lights we need, so I can walk here with my wife.

"I can sit here and enjoy the night," said a native of Asmara. I would like to express my thanks to them for installing these lamps, so that we can enjoy the beauty of the city.
