Djibouti - (Horn Observer) Djibouti President returned to the country on Tuesday following a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the Invitation of the Saudi King, Officials said.
During the visit of the Djiboutian president Ismail Omar Gelleh met with the Eritrean president Isayas Afewarki under the mediation of the Saudi government.
The two countries has been at odds over the border dispute that led the two countries to go into a fierce fight.
Following this hearing, the president of the republic met with his Eritrean counterpart, Mr Isayas Afeworki, with whom, under the aegis of mediation led by the brother and friend kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by his minister for foreign affairs, he Has given the top start of an official process of normalization of our relations with that country, According to a statement released by the Djibouti president Ismail Omar Gelleh.
"Our country had already agreed to the principle of normalization of its relations with Eritrea in favour of the recent displacement in Djibouti on 06 September 2018 of the heads of diplomacy of Ethiopia, Somalia and the Eritrea.” Ismail Omar Gelleh said in a statement.
Eritrea ia and Djibouti are members of the Saudi led coalition of the Sunni alliance and the Saudi government had seen an interest in the mediation of its allies, a time which the coalition is fighting rebels in Yemen.
