Rome, 25 October 12:51 - (Agenzia Nova)- No external intervention was needed to sign the peace agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia. This was stated by the Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh, speaking today at the second Italy-Africa Ministerial Conference, underway at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Conditions were ripe to open a new chapter in normalizing relationships (with Ethiopia)." Many think peace was possible thanks to negotiations carried out behind the scenes, but it was not. peace agreement, but we have also started a partnership based on synergy and complementarity, with the aim of recovering lost time by investing in joint projects and opening the borders to the free movement of goods and people, "said Saleh, stressing that the agreement with Ethiopia has not been limited to bilateral relations but is aimed at "promoting a true regional partnership", as evidenced by the tripartite cooperation agreement with Ethiopia and Somalia signed in Asmara in September. "We are well intentioned to involve the entire region, receiving at the same time contributions from partners such as Italy", whose strong interest for the area has been demonstrated by the recent visit of the President of the Council, Giuseppe Conte, right in Eritrea and in Ethiopia.
