Wednesday, December 05, 2018 14:12

A 40-year-old man died Sunday afternoon, November 25 at the Optisport Bijlmer Sports Center at the Anton de Komplein.

He was in the pool and was taken out of the water by employees of the swimming pool. They have tried to resuscitate him, says pool director Erwin van Iersel. According to him it is a status holder (a refugee who has received a Dutch residence permit) from Eritrea.

'It is not certain what the cause of death is, that has to remain out of the coronation', says Van Iersel. "It could be a heart attack, for example, or an epileptic seizure." The man would join in with swimming lessons. According to his wife, he could already swim, says Van Iersel.

According to the police, there is still investigation into the cause of death of the man. Last Saturday a farewell service was held, Van Iersel was also present there.
