[FROM THE ARCHIVES OF HISTORY- PEKING REVIEW, OCTOBER 15, 1971] When Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie visited China in October 1971 he was accompanied by twenty six (26) royal family members and officials. The majority of them were Amharas. There were only two Eritreans in the entourage, who were included as an act of tokensim, namely Dr. Seyoum Haregot and Yohannes Kidane Mariam.

When Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie visited China in October 1971 he was accompanied by twenty six (26) royal family members and officials. The majority of them were Amharas. There were only two Eritreans in the entourage, who were included as an act of tokensim, namely Dr. Seyoum Haregot and Yohannes Kidane Mariam. This shows you that the government of the day in Ethiopia was an Amhara dominated government.  It was not a representative government of all ethnic groups in Ethiopia.
