The head of the African country of the country noted that the West made the wrong decision more than thirty years ago after the collapse of the USSR to contain Russia. “They made a mistake, because Russia cannot be contained, and they will never be able to do it,” he stressed.
Afewerki also called NATO and the European Union (EU) "flawed organizations", and the EU itself, in his opinion, "does not really exist" and, together with the North Atlantic Alliance, "is in the intensive care unit."
The Eritrean leader also called the collapse of the USSR the greatest tragedy and catastrophe for the whole world. “The collapse of the USSR was the greatest tragedy and catastrophe for the whole world,” the Eritrean leader said, drawing a smile from Putin.
On July 28, the participants of the Russia-Africa summit agreed and adopted a declaration containing a joint action plan until 2026 and a number of significant multilateral documents in the field of international information security. Putin announced this in the final speech of the plenary session of the summit.
