Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received, today, Thursday, October 12, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea, Osman Saleh, and the Advisor to the Eritrean President for Political Affairs, Yemane Gebreab, as part of their current visit to Cairo .
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Eritrean officials stressed the importance of developing relations between the two countries in various fields and following up on existing bilateral cooperation programmes, as ways to enhance various aspects of bilateral relations and efforts to develop existing projects were identified. between Egypt and Eritrea, in the interest of achieving development and prosperity for the peoples of both countries .
The official spokesman stated that the meeting addressed the current situation in Sudan with greater concern as a result of the continuation of the existing confrontations, and the impact of that situation on the future stability of Sudan and its regional neighbourhood, where the important and pivotal role played by the mechanism of Sudan’s neighboring countries in dealing with the crisis and working to find a solution was emphasized. Effective and sustainable solutions that guarantee the preservation of the unity, safety and stability of Sudan and its brotherly people .
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Mr. Sameh Shoukry was keen to review Egypt’s assessment of the deteriorating conditions in the Gaza Strip and the dangerous escalation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, its impact on civilians, and its danger to the future of resolving the Palestinian issue on the basis of the principles of international legitimacy in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The Foreign Minister briefed the Eritrean officials on the overall efforts and communications undertaken by Egypt at all levels in order to stop the ongoing escalation, put an end to the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip, and open the way again for calm in order to deal with the roots of the problem and its causes.
