HARARE, April 1. /TASS/. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov, arrived at the port of Massawa (Eritrea) at the head of a representative delegation. As the Ministry of Information of the State of Eritrea reported on its website, his visit takes place as part of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Eritrea.
The Russian delegation was warmly greeted by the Chief of the General Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces, General Philipos Woldeyohannes, Commissioner for Culture and Sports Zemede Tekle, and representatives of the high command.
On March 28, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov entered the port of Massawa, which became the first visit of a Russian ship to Eritrea in the modern history of Russia. A cultural and sports program is planned for Pacific sailors in Massawa. The crew of the frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov" has already visited the cemetery of martyrs, a local museum, and played a friendly football match with the Eritrean Navy team.
