Good news from the Intermarché-Wanty camp . Their leader Biniam Girmay did not suffer any fractures in a crash in the final of the sixteenth stage. The Eritrean can therefore start in the seventeenth stage.
"Medical examination has shown that Biniam has bruises on his right shoulder, elbow and knee, but no fractures. His injuries to his right elbow required two stitches. Despite this setback, Biniam is fighting spirit and is ready to race tomorrow," the Belgian team announced via social media.
Girmay's fall meant he was unable to sprint, which meant his lead over Jasper Philipsen , who won the stage, in the points classification was significantly reduced. The 24-year-old rider now has a 32-point lead over the Belgian.
