Eritrean Biniam Girmay, his green jersey on his shoulders, crossed the finish line of the 2024 Tour de France in Nice on Sunday, July 21. The Intermarché-Wanty rider officially won the points classification ahead of Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck). A first for African cycling.

I didn't expect this, I didn't come with this ambition (to win the green jersey). I simply came to show that I wasn't a bad rider. I'm very grateful to be here. What an extraordinary day!"
