Mansour Arbab, leader of the new Justice and Equality Movement, announced his arrival in Port Sudan to formalize his forces' participation in the ongoing war alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces against the Rapid Support Forces.
Arbab explained, in a statement to Al Arabiya, that the visit came after understandings with the Sudanese government in Eritrea, noting that they had agreed with the government to sign a peace agreement in Doha after Eid al-Fitr in 2023, but the outbreak of war prevented that.
He added that his movement fought fierce battles against the Rapid Support Forces in the areas of Kerenik, Mestari, El Geneina, Abu Suruj, Jebel Moon, and elsewhere, but suffered losses despite not having signed any formal agreement with the government at the time.
This move comes at a time when Sudan is witnessing an escalation in military confrontations, amid efforts by several parties to reorganize their alliances amid the ongoing war since April 2023.
