As expected, foreign athletes dominated the race with Eritrean Okubay Gebretnsae winning in 2h11m58s, followed by Kenyans David Kipyego 55 seconds behind and Evans Korir 3m27s behind. João Carvalho (Indiv.) was the first Portuguese in seventh place in 2h32m04s.
In the women's race, Ethiopian Aberash Robi performed in a different way from her rivals, winning in 2h29m50s, with Spanish Mónica Gutierrez in second place 18m34s behind and Portuguese Jennifer Maia (Indiv.) closing the podium 36m11s behind. Frenchman Jacques Leroy was last in 6h20m26s.
1,638 athletes qualified, a number that far exceeds last year's 1,338. Of the 1,638 this year, 262 were female (16%).
In addition to the marathon, we also had a half marathon, a mini marathon of 10 km and a 5 km walk. In the three races with classifications, we had more than eight thousand runners, a very considerable number in our country.
The Half Marathon had 3,427 classified (2,198 in 2024) with victories by Said Ameqrande (Indiv.) in 1h06m23s and Carla Martinho (Indiv.) in 1h16m01s.
In the 10 km, we had 3,103 classified (2,748 in 2024) with the classifications not yet available.
Cash prizes were awarded to the top five finishers, with the marathon winners each receiving five thousand euros. The best Portuguese runner received one thousand euros. The half marathon had prizes worth 10% of the marathon.
