Fifteen migrants from Eritrea were rescued from a refrigerated lorry on a motorway parking area in northern France on Saturday; the vehicle was en route to the United Kingdom and a few of the migrants were suffering from hypothermia, according to local authorities reported by AFP.

The migrants, including one woman, were found inside the lorry transporting vegetables after the driver heard noises. “Due to the hypothermia, we assume they had been in there for several hours,” stated Christian Vedelago, chief of staff for the prefect of the Pas-de-Calais department.

Four migrants were taken to hospital. The others claimed to be minors and were taken in by an association. According to the chief of staff, several of them are required to leave French territory. The lorry driver is not being prosecuted.

Despite extensive security measures around the ports in northern France and the Channel Tunnel, migrants continue attempting to climb into lorries to try illegally crossing into England.
