The transfer market is truly moving in these past few days, with many high-level rider being announced to their new teams for 2026 and also a few strong rumours emerging over potential moves that would have a significant impact. One of them is that of

UAE Team Emirates - XRG.
A transfer seems imminent, but the destination is not clear. The 25-year old has a contract until 2028 with
Intermarché - Wanty and was the team's highest investment, specially after the Eritrean won three stages and the points classification at the 2024 Tour de France.
His popularity is also one of the highest in pro cycling, and besides being a top sprinter, he is a talented classics rider. Girmay's 2025 hasn't been as shiny as the previous season but he has nevertheless scored a few interesting results and was third at the Tour's recent Tour.
His contract would be fulfilled on paper, but most likely Intermarché is linking up with Lotto to form a stronger Belgian team in 2026, but this will also mean that the current riders signed with Intermarché will have their contract, in simple terms, nullified, as the team should take Lotto's team license.
UAE on the horizon?
Wielerevue has reported that a move could be quite possible towards UAE Team Emirates - XRG, who will lose Juan Sebastián Molano as their top sprinter and could be looking to sign a replacement, having free spots in the team for such a potential move.
Above all, Het Laatste Nieuws reported that teammate Laurenz Rex said that Girmay would be moving to a 'top 5' team in the world. This could mean it is a different outfit, but in Girmay we could potentially see a very big battle in the market for soon. The likes of Derek Gee and Juan Ayuso are in their own separate situations but could also bring more fireworks in the final months of the season.
