Minister Abdel Aati emphasized the depth of historical relations between Egypt and Eritrea, and the bonds of brotherhood and close cooperation that bind the two countries. He expressed his appreciation for the joint cooperation and the common visions and strategic interests that bind the two countries. He also pointed out Egypt's keenness to consolidate strategic cooperation with Eritrea in various fields, to the benefit of the two brotherly peoples and to achieve their common interests.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of building on the outcomes of high-level exchanges and continuing consultation and coordination to explore new horizons for bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, trade, and development fields, in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples. Minister Abdel Aty also praised the spirit of coordination between the two countries within the framework of the tripartite mechanism comprising Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia, stressing the importance of moving forward with holding its regular meetings to enhance cooperation in the Horn of Africa region.
The meeting witnessed an exchange of views on regional issues of mutual interest, foremost among which was the developments in Sudan. Minister Abdel Aati stressed the importance of preserving Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions, lifting the siege on El Fasher, and strengthening efforts to contain the humanitarian crisis. The need to support Somalia in its efforts to combat terrorism and extend its sovereignty over its territory was also emphasized. The two ministers then discussed security challenges in the Red Sea, affirming that the security and governance of the Red Sea remains the exclusive concern of the coastal states, as they are concerned with preserving its security, stability, and the sustainability of its resources.
Regarding Egypt's water security, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of cooperation in accordance with international law to protect the interests of all Nile Basin countries, while affirming his rejection of unilateral measures that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin. He emphasized that Egypt will take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security.
Minister Abdel-Ati discussed the ongoing arrangements for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development and invited his Eritrean counterpart to participate in its proceedings.
