A perfect day of weather illuminated the 1st Adigeo Verona Run Fast 10k , an event organized by Gaac 2007 Veronamarathon Asd which sold out with a thousand people at the start in this first edition on the Lungadige Attiraglio with the Bernstein Center as the meeting point.
A new beginning, an event missing from Verona that fills a gap, the adrenaline rush of a 10km race is truly unique. Furthermore, the first Adigeo Verona Run Fast 10k has already written a page in history: winner Rahel Daniel's 32:09 finish is among the top ten times ever on Italian soil and the fastest overall for 2025.
It was a fast, incredibly fast, race unlike any 10k road race in Verona. Kenyan Moses Cheruiyot (Run2Gether) lived up to his expectations, winning hands down with an excellent time of 28'46", just above his personal best and leaving him with a clear 45" lead over teammate Adams Kiprop , second in 29'23".
The race ran at an average pace of 2'50" per kilometer, with the two Kenyans and the Italian Ouhda immediately setting the pace, passing the third kilometer in 8'37" and at the halfway point, kilometer 5, in 14'32", where only the two Africans remained in the lead. From the sixth kilometer onwards, Cheruiyot decided to make the difference and try to win by increasing the pace even further, bringing the average for the final kilometers to 2'45". She passed the eighth kilometer in 23'01" and from there she then went all alone towards the final victory in 28'46".
"I'm happy with my victory, the course is really fast, I was with my teammate Kiprop until halfway through the race, then I realized I could go even faster and so I gave it everything I had," said winner Cheuiyot.
Third on the podium was Italian Ahmed Ouhda (CS Esercito), who finished in 29:26. There was anticipation to see how he was performing after his stellar performance at the last marathon in Berlin three weeks ago, where in his second marathon, he snatched an important tenth place overall with a new personal best of 2:10:39. "It was a great test for me. I did the best I could and I'm satisfied. I've practically recovered everything, or almost everything, from the marathon. The race is very fast, a good test for me, as I'll be competing again next week at the Italian Half Marathon Championships," said Ouhda, coached by former Italian Ruggero Pertile.
The women's race also met the expectations of Eritrean Rahel Daniel, who had expected to finish unchallenged. Daniel finished her efforts in 32:09, shattering her previous personal best for the 10km road race by 14 seconds and recording the best female performance on Italian soil in 2025 at this first Adigeo Verona Run Fast 10k.
"After a few years of absence, I've returned to competition in recent months," says the Eritrean athlete, who finished fifth at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene. "I ran steadily, picking up the pace in the final stages. I'm happy with this result, which gives me so much courage and morale. I've been in Italy for a few weeks and will soon return to Eritrea, but this result boosts my morale and makes me think I'm on the right track to return to being among the world's strongest athletes. For me, it's a new beginning."
Behind her was Michela Moretton (Assindustria Sport) in 35'03", followed by Veronese Agnese Carcano (Atl Verona Asd Pindemonte) in 35'21" who completed the first female podium of this Verona event.
"I'm happy with my race. I managed my energy well all the way through, and in fact, I ran progressively. It was a great test at the end of a great training cycle, and I'm satisfied. I did what I had agreed with my coach. It's a race that gives me a good idea of my condition, especially in light of the Italian 10km Championships scheduled for November 2nd," commented Michela Moretton.
"A good start," commented Gaac 2007 Veronamarathon Asd, organizers of the 1st Adigeo Verona Run Fast 10k. " We are truly satisfied with the positive response from the athletes, thanks to which we achieved a sell-out of one thousand people, which was our target for this first year. We had a beautiful morning on the Lungadige Attiraglio, which is a fantastic place to practice outdoor sports every Sunday morning. We brought our organizational experience to the table, providing competitive spirit, a sense of well-being, and smiles, even for the many non-competitive participants. In terms of timing, we can only be delighted with the extraordinary performances. We wanted the winner to clock under 29 minutes, and that was the case; five went under 30 minutes, and 13 under 32 minutes. Eritrean Rahel Daniel achieved a small solo masterpiece, running a time among the top ten ever on Italian soil and the best performance in Italy in 2025. It's also likely the Eritrean record. It's a general confirmation that it's a very fast-paced event. We want to grow this event, which we believe could become very popular."
