Research and Documentation Center: Making the Past a Digital Reality
The University of Pavia of Italy and Research and Documentation Centre of the State of Eritrea (RDC) are working together hand in hand to preserve and digitalise the past historic archives and documents as a cultural heritage of the country. The Research and Documentation Centre of Eritrea, is well equipped with state of art equipment for digitisation and preservation to perform key functions in archiving audio visual, historic manuscripts, videos and documents. It has been transformed to a centre of excellence in digital preservation where it is now capacitated to provide hands-on training to its staff and partner staff. The draft Law on National Archives and Libraries was prepared and commented by engaging both RDC and UNIPAVIA experts and external incountry team of experts. Ambassador Joanna Darmanin, Head of EU Delegation to Eritrea and team of cooperation met with the Director, Ms. Azieb Tewolde of The Research and Documentation Centre of Eritrea. The director of the centre expressed her appreciation to the Eritrean Government, European Union, University of Pavia and other partners for their support to strengthen the capacity of the institution. The European Union has supported the Research and Documentation Centre to Eritrea through three successive EU-funded projects in order to strength and promote the exchange of lessons learned for research and documentation to be part of global cultural heritage.
