A new chapter in Miss World history is about to begin as Eritrea prepares to make its debut at the 75th Miss World Anniversary Edition in Vietnam. Representing the East African nation is Snit Habteab, a neuroscientist, educator, and disability rights advocate whose inspiring journey reflects the values of purpose, compassion, and service that define Miss World.
Born and raised in Asmara, Snit earned a degree in Neuroscience from George Mason University in Virginia, USA. Alongside her academic journey, she worked as a Montessori preschool teacher, driven by her belief that scientific knowledge should translate into meaningful support for children with developmental disabilities. She has also served as a Breast Cancer Awareness Ambassador, a cause that became deeply personal after losing her mother to breast cancer.
Snit's passion for advocacy is inspired by her younger sister, who was born with Down syndrome. Witnessing the challenges her sister faced within the education system motivated her to champion inclusive education, advocating for children with special needs to be fully integrated into mainstream classrooms and given equal opportunities to learn and thrive.
Beyond her work in science and education, Snit enjoys an active and creative lifestyle. She plays tennis and basketball, practices kickboxing, loves salsa dancing, enjoys painting, and speaks Tigrinya, English, and Italian, reflecting her diverse talents and global outlook.
One of the world's youngest nations, Eritrea gained independence in 1993. Located along the Red Sea, the country is known for its stunning coastline, the remarkable Art Deco architecture of its capital, Asmara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its rich cultural diversity, represented by nine recognised ethnic groups.
Eritrea's participation marks a significant milestone in the history of Miss World, becoming the 185th nation to join the pageant during its remarkable 75-year journey. The debut reflects the continued growth of the Miss World family, bringing together women from across the globe to celebrate culture, purpose, and humanitarian service.
The 75th Miss World Anniversary Edition will be held in Vietnam from 9 August to 5 September, where Snit Habteab will proudly carry Eritrea's flag on the international stage for the very first time. Her participation not only marks a historic debut for her country but also celebrates the power of education, inclusion, and advocacy as she begins Eritrea's journey in one of the world's most prestigious pageants.
