The cup final between the Basque antagonists was postponed for a year due to the corona pandemic, but during Easter Eve it was time to reconcile the title.
The rain poured down in the match introduction and there was no pretense.
Alexander Isak played from the start and could rejoice at how his Real Sociedad took over more and more.
After 0-0 at half time, Real Sociedad received a dividend in the second half.
Decided on punishment
Midfielder Portu was hijacked by Inigo Martiez in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Martinez received a red card, which was then changed to a yellow card after a VAR review.
Mikel Oyarzabal took care of the penalty and put the decision there.
The victory meant that Real Sociedad secured its first title in 34 years. The latest came in the Spanish Cup in the 86-87 season.
Athletic Bilbao has a chance for revenge in two weeks. This year's regular cup final will be played, between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.
