Mekseb Debesay (Team Dimension Data) winner of the queen stage

By David GUENEL - 25/02/2017

After three stages played in the sprint, place was made to the climbers this Saturday. After 175 km punctuated by an arrival at the summit, it was the young Eritrean Mekseb Debesay who imposed himself. In the overall standings, team-mate Ryan Gibbons confirms his yellow tunic.

Mekseb Debesay, first success since 2015

The 4 th stage of the 22 th Tour de Langkawi started from the city of Seri Manjung, along the Straits of Malacca, to give runners a gradual rise in the heart of the Highlands, Cameron Highlands. Quickly, a breakaway of five men took 6 minutes in advance. However, it was written that Afiq Othman, Kota Sumiyoshi, Joon Yong Seo, Turakit Boonratanathanakorn and Eiman Firdaus Mohd Zamri would not go to the end. Despite a still comfortable lead to Tapah, at the foot of the day's great difficulty, the victory was played without them. The final climb, divided into two parts, dedicated the best climbers of the event.

Thus, a handful of runners succeeded in distancing the rest of the troops. Among them were Ryan Gibbons, the leader of the overall standings. The two biggest were however Cameron Bayly and Mekseb Debesay. The two men took a few steps ahead of their fellow escapees and played victory in the sprint. The African cyclist of 2014 there won his first victory since winning at the 4 th stage (already) the Tour of Rwanda. Narrowly defeated, the Australian will wait on him even before conquering his 2 e success among professionals.

Ryan Gibbons, one step closer to victory

Gibbons ( Team Dimension Data ) took his lead to 11 'on his first chase, who is now Australian Cameron Bayly, with the lack of logic of the sprinter Mccabe in the first places of the stage . As the winner of the day he enters the top 10 and ranked 6 th spot.

Tomorrow, 151 kilometers to go to Kuala Kubu Bharu from Meru Raya. The neck of Trolak (1 e class) seems too far from the finish to play a role in the stage. Nevertheless, with the weakness of the gaps created today, the leader of the race is likely to suffer some attacks during the last four stages ...
