Edmonton songwriter Ruth B won her first Juno award, for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, on Sunday.

The 21-year-old was also nominated for the Juno Fan Choice Award and Songwriter of the Year Award and performed at the ceremony in Ottawa.
“The one thing I always wanted to hear on this stage — it doesn’t matter where you come from, no matter what you do, if you have a passion, follow it,” she said.
The singer first gained popularity through the social media platform Vine with six-second snippets. Her single Lost Boy has since gone triple platinum in Canada.
On Saturday, alternative band July Talk took home Best Alternative Album. Singer Peter Dreimanis originally hailed from Edmonton.
