    Overview

The Horn of Africa is host to highly varied constituent countries. From state collapse followed by deeply flawed reconstruction in Somalia, to militarized isolation in Eritrea, and a still fragile ‘developmental state’ in Ethiopia, the tensions implicit in the process of state formation now drive the relationships between the once historically close nations of the Horn.

Speakers will examine the distinctiveness of the Horn of Africa's inter-state relations and the divergent trajectories within the region. This event will launch The Horn of Africa: State Formation and Decay, authored by Christopher Clapham and published by Hurst.
