The man from Eritrea (20) who killed his girlfriend and her six-year-old daughter at the Jufferpad in Haren last October, has to be in jail for twenty years.
The Public Prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of 25 years two weeks ago against the man who lives in Glimmen.
The court did not consider premeditation and sentenced the man for double manslaughter.
"The suspect acted in a flurry of bewilderment. He was overwhelmed and crazy when he heard that his girlfriend wanted to end the relationship, "the court explained.
He first killed his girlfriend and later strangled the child after she found her mother dead.
"Daughter will have to live without mother and sister. Knowing that her father is responsible. "
The man did not cooperate in personality research and is fully accountable according to the court. The man must be in therapy during his imprisonment. He himself was not present at the verdict.
A 20-year-old man from Glimmen in Groningen was sentenced to twenty years in prison for killing his 23-year-old friend and her 6-year-old daughter. The Public Prosecutor had demanded 25 years .
The man had already known to have committed the acts. He strangled his girlfriend with a telephone cord in a house in Haren last year in October and then cut her throat. Then he choked the girl with a piece of clothing.
In his own words the man acted from an impulse, after his girlfriend had told him that he wanted to end the relationship.
After his act he would have tried to commit suicide, after which he asked a friend to call in the police. Agents found him in the house with his 1-year-old daughter whom he had received with the woman. The dead girl had another father.
Both the perpetrator and the victims are from Eritrea. They had temporary residency status and got to know each other in the asylum seekers' center in Oude Pekela.
The Public Prosecutor believed that the man acted deliberately in killing his girlfriend and therefore labeled that action as murder. He would have killed the daughter on an impulse when the girl found her dead mother in the bathroom.
