Addis Ababa June 27/2018 The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), commended the steps that Ethiopia and Eritrea have taken to start talks in order to end hostilities.
Executive Secretary of IGAD Ambassador Mahboub Maalim, expressed his delight upon the arrival of Eritrean delegation in Addis Ababa for talks.
The talks would be the first in almost 20 years breakdown of relationship which culminated in a war that lasts for two years.
The Executive Secretary lauded the initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed taking the first step of proposing that the two countries should solve their differences peacefully.
The Executive Secretary also commended the President of the State of Eritrea for the positive response to the initiative.
Ambassador Maalim expressed hope that the talks will bear fruit that will be appreciated by both peoples and the region as a whole.
The Executive Secretary asserted IGAD’s commitment to do its level best to support the success of the talks, the press release IGAD dispatched to ENA said.
