Mr. Semere is the current Eritrea’s Minister of Education, according to Yemane G. Meskel, Eritrea’s Minister of Information.
Mr. Semere, who will retain his Ministerial rank, has served as Eritrea's Ambassador to the US and Governor of the Central Region in previous years.
Ethiopia also appointed Redwan Hussien as Ambassador to Eritrea.
Eritrea reopened its embassy in Addis Ababa last Monday.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki jointly raised the Eritrean flag inside the embassy and reaffirmed their commitment to cementing peace between their nations.
